History of McFall Layman and Jordan, PC.

The predecessors to McFall, Layman and Jordan have maintained a presence in the Slate Belt since at least 1932. The firm originally started as Woodley and Davis in downtown Bangor and eventually moved to its current location at 134 Broadway, Bangor in 1968.

Upon the death of Attorney Woodley the Firm added a new partner and became Davis and Pritchard. Larry Davis and Jim Pritchard eventually added William C. Cassebaum to the firm which subsequently became know as "Davis, Pritchard and Cassebaum".

The firm continued to concentrate in the general practice of civil law and with the addition of our current senior partner, Alan B. McFall, an assistant district attorney at the time, expanded into the area of criminal law.

William C. Cassebaum retired in 1999 after an illustrious career which saw him serve as President of the Pennsylvania Bar Association and one of the first judges of the Court of Judicial Discipline in Pennsylvania. It was at this time that the firm adopted its current name of "McFall, Layman & Jordan".

Over the years our firm has represented almost every municipality in the Slate Belt including Bangor Borough, Pen Argyl Borough, Wind Gap Borough, Plainfied Township, Lower Mt. Bethel Township, Washington Township, Upper Mt. Bethel Township as well as the various authorities and boards for those entities. One of our partners sat on the Board of all three Banks originating in the Slate Belt: the First National Bank of Bangor, Merchants National Bank and Pen Argyl National.

We have served as solicitors to all three of the school districts serving the Slate Belt, Bangor, Pen Argyl and Easton School District. Attorney McFall has served continuously as solicitor to Pen Argyl School District for 10+ years. We were also the attorneys for the Lehigh valley International airport from its evolution from ABE to the present LVIA.

We are proud to be a general practice law firm. As such we can help you with all of your legal needs whether you need us in good times to buy a house or adopt a child and in more unfortunate time when you need us to administer an estate or in times of divorce.

History of Our Building

historic photo

We ask that you visit our offices at 134 Broadway, Bangor. Our Building was originally built in 1884 by Alfred M. Paff to serve as his medical Office and home. The Paff Mansion, as it became know, stayed in the Paff family serving as the law office and home of Dr. Paff's son, J. Willard Paff. The mansion passed out of the Paff family in 1948 when it was sold to North Bangor Slate Company, owned by Harold Smith.

Our parcel and the parcel on Second Street was originally one piece of ground but in 1948 Harold "Bub" Smith , the owner of North Bangor Slate and one of the most successful and influential businessmen in Bangor purchased the building and land so that he could build his own stately home next door on Second Street.

The remaining building was remodeled as a law office in 1948 and was leased to various attorneys over the years until it was eventually purchased by Davis, Pritchard and Cassebaum in 1968 to serve as their law office and that use continues today.

The building consists of three floors of offices and contains two libraries, a conference room, attorneys offices, secretarial spaces and storage. The original stained glass windows, curved stairway, extensive library with expansive conference table and tin ceiling are reminiscent of the law offices of years ago.
